I would choose the power to try out a different life.

Often I think to myself, how fun would it be to, for just a day, step into magical transporting shoes that will give me the tastes of life I've not yet savored?

I would first want to taste the metallic life in the Air Force, or somewhere high up in the military where secrecy is a lifestyle. I would be a powerful, capable women, trained to fight and code. What would it be like to go on missions? Travel to unidentified areas and sleep in the trees? Would I survive? I would not, surely.

Or maybe I would fancy the rich flavors of becoming a famous celebrity in another country. A renowned singer or dancer. Someone who represented the country with elegance. What would my struggles be? What would I be able to accomplish? With infinite money and success, would I be able to overcome the doubts and insecurities that linger closely? How would my personality change?

Surely it would be in the bland flavors of ancient times that I would find myself drawn out. The simplicity of life found amidst the wars, farming, innovation and family life. But I must ask myself, which flavor is best to my taste? I also have to consider: not one flavor is found alone amongst these livelihoods. Bitterness comes after the tang, and coldness enters in after the heat settles.

I'm curious to know what makes a person. Their family, background, interests, dislikes, relationships, diet, etc. Should one variable change, how great of an impact would it make? Had I grown up with the same parents and desires in a different country, what type of woman would walk the streets? Had I grown up under the wings of a politician, who would I be? I believe a ripple at the top of a family tree can create a tsunami at the bottom, and everyone of us has to consider which branch of the tree we are.

At the end of this tumultuous story, I think I would humbly return to my own bed knowing that my shoes fit the best. Still, isn't it nice to change shoes every now and then?
