Stirring from his sleep behind the wheel to the gentle thrum of the freeway, the road was long but alas, freedom found, he was home...

Wrought iron gates split in a sickling crack as his assistant pulled the hover car into the Great Manor grounds. Suddenly his veins sang in warmth, the familiar marble statues saluting him down the drive. Dialdro sat forward, his nerves still recovering from the long training. What would the city think when they saw him? It had been years since he left, and now he returned with the greatest achievement of all—High Power.

The ground gave way beneath the hoverer and it pitched forward, lowering as straight skyscrapers dared to scrap its belly. Dialdro felt his insides shifting as the city swarmed with life. Down at the city platform, his friends and family waited eagerly to welcome him home, but not all of his classmates would make it back to theirs. Dialdro turned his hands over. There was no evidence of what he’d done all those years—none of his friends would ever know the blood he spilled or the lives he took. They’d see him as the young, troublemaking boy he always was, but those days of simple pranking had turned into chronic destruction.

Dialdro fought his fears off through distraction. He couldn’t sleep? He’d train. Couldn't focus? He'd run. But even while training he saw the faces of those he’d killed, and Dialdro had no way to get rid of them but to replace them.

Suddenly he didn’t want to go home. He sought the freedom his old home and family could give him, but this time he brought heavy chains with him—chains that threatened to pull his home form the sky.

“Turn around,” Dialdro suddenly called out.

“W-what?”

“I have to go back. There’s someone I need to see.”

“But sir, you’re nearly home,” the assistant called out, unsure.

Dialdro’s hands began to sweat. He needed to get out soon. “Do it.”

His professor was right—there was only one way to freedom.

This writing sprint was a fun 15 minute challenge to take a pre-existing prompt and write as much as possible in 15 minutes. These are unedited, and as such are a little rough (but still my babies).
